Flooded Basement: Step-by-Step Action Plan
A flooded basement is stressful—but acting in the right sequence can prevent injuries and limit damage. Whether the water came from heavy rain, a burst pipe, or a nearby overflow, the immediate priorities are electrical safety, stopping the source, and beginning controlled cleanup.
1) Put safety first (power and hazards)
Do not enter standing water if there’s any chance it’s in contact with electricity.
